Press Release: Them Dirty Shrikes Debut EP 'Heads or Tails'

“We didn’t really plan much in the early days of the band, we took chances and luck was a big part of what brought us together so the perfect way for us to exemplify that was by naming our debut EP ‘Heads or Tails’. As all stories go, we didn’t win every coin toss but the ones that counted are the ones that led us to where we are now.” - Stiaan du Preez, Guitarist

'Heads or Tails' Album Art by Soné Anne

‘Heads or Tails’ is the culmination of experiences of playing shows all over Pretoria and Johannesburg, from intimate acoustic settings to electrifying shows. Them Dirty Shrikes, a band that started with a lucky shot, release their debut EP ‘Heads or Tails’. Releasing on all major streaming services, digital platforms and CD. ‘Heads or Tails’ consists of the following songs: 1. 411 2. Biting My Tongue

3. Animals

4. High Tide

5. Tough Luck Recorded, mixed and produced by Evert Snyman and Louise Eksteen of Backline Studio, the debut of Them Dirty Shrikes is performed by Soné Briel (Vocals/Lyricist), Stiaan du Preez (Guitar), SL Le Roux Minnaar (Bass) and Adriaan Cruywagen (Drums). From the ethereal sounds on 411 and Animals to the secludedness of High Tide, Them Dirty Shrikes set out to define a sonic signature for themselves and constantly improve from there. Soné says - “The subject matter that comes to play in 'Heads or Tails' touches topics such as self love (and the lack thereof), lost love and depression, we hope whomever listens to the album will be able to relate and find a sense of belonging. Fueled by strong riffs and a beat, we not only hope to bring people something to jam out to but we also hope that they will be touched by the lyrical content.”

They also worked with videographer Jean-Michael Kelsey on a meaningful and thoughtful music video for their song 'High Tide' which is track number 4 on the EP, view it here.
